As you may or may not have heard, it was announced last week that LA’s oldest diner, the Original Pantry Cafe, plans to close as of March 2nd. You can read my thoughts on the situation at LA Taco, but the gist of it is this: the Riordan Trust, the owners of the Pantry, want to sell the building. The staff want them to promise that whoever buys the diner will keep the Pantry as-is, and that no one will lose their jobs. The Trust refused, and instead decided to simply shutter the restaurant.
As such, the March meeting of the Diner Preservation Society, which was originally to be held at Astro Family Restaurant, will now be held at The Pantry Cafe on March 2nd at 10am. We will reschedule our midnight meeting at Astro for April. If you haven’t been to a DPS meeting before, this one is going to be a really important one, so please, show up if you can!
